artist statement (red series):
the focus of this series of paintings has been on the color red. i am intrigued by the color's tendency to provoke both psychological and aesthetic reactions. i have devoted this body of work to investigating the hue's behavior amongst varying colors, values, and textures in a grid-like format. i use this format as a way to organize and create pattern, which helps the viewer move through the painting.
